Director Gary Ross has signed up to direct the second film in the Hunger Games series, even though the first film is not even released until the middle of March.

The Hunger Games stars Oscar nominee Jennifer Lawrence in the adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ novel, and Ross has already directed this film.

The sci-fi action thriller is one of the highly anticipated movies coming out in 2012, and is expected to take over the vampire crown from the Twilight Saga, and although it is still two months off, Lionsgate bosses are so confident in the success of the film that they are going ahead with the sequel and have penned it in for a November 2013 release.

The script is being prepared by Slumdog Millionaire scribe Simon Beaufoy, and Ross will supervise.
