The Artist gets 12 BAFTA nominations

The Artist’ has received 12 BAFTA nominations.

The French silent movie – starring Jean Dujardin and Berenice Bejo – is up for Best Film, Best Original Screenplay, Leading Actor and Leading Actress, beating 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy' which is up for 11 awards.

America actress Meryl Streep has been nominated for Leading Actress for her performance in ‘The Iron Lady’, which sees the 62-year-old star portray former British Prime Minister,Margaret Thatcher.

Jim Broadbent has been nominated for Supporting Actor for his part as Dennis Thatcher in 'The Iron Lady' alongside Christopher Plummer, Jonah Hill, Kenneth Branagh and Philip Seymour Hoffma.

'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy', 'The Descendants', 'The Help', 'Drive' and 'The Artist' will all compete in the Best Film category.

The awards will be presented at the Royal Opera House in London on February 12 in a ceremony hosted by Stephen Fry.
