War Horse actor Tom Hiddleston has been nominated for the Rising Star Award alongside Chris O'Dowd at this year's Bafta's.

Other nominations for the award include Adam Deacon, Eddie Redmayne and Chris Hemsworth.

O'Dowd starred in Gulliver's Travels, Bridesmaids and This Is Forty and continued his role in the successful Channel 4 sitcom The IT Crowd.

Hiddleston has also had a successful twelve months, starring in The Deep Blue Sea and as villain Loki in Thor.

The actor, who reprises his role as Loki in the upcoming Avengers movie, said: "It's absolutely amazing to be up for it. The list is an incredible group of young actors, most of whom are already stars - they're not rising, they're burning brightly in the firmament."

Adam Deacon rose to fame through his roles in Kidulthood and Adulthood, while Chris Hemsworth impressed with his performance of comic-book hero Thor.

Meanwhile Eddie Redmayne, who starred in My Week With Marilyn and the upcoming BBC adaptation of Birdsong, said he finds awards ceremonies a bit scary.

He said: "I've presented awards once or twice, which is my worst nightmare. Actors were not built to read autocues. It's terrifying because you're at a theatre in front of Hollywood, girls fall over dresses, skirts unravel, we slip on our new borrowed shoes, the whole thing can be a bit of a disaster."

The Bafta Awards take place on February 12.
