Jennifer Lawrence to announce Oscar nominations
Jennifer Lawrence The 21-year-old actress has been asked to announce the nominees for the upcoming awards ceremony at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in California.
Lawrence – who was last year nominated for a best actress Oscar after starring in 2010 thriller Winter’s Bone – will be joined by Academy president Tom Sherak in the Beverly Hills theatre on Tuesday, January 24, when 10 of the 24 categories will be announced at 05:30 Pacific Standard Time (PST).
Thereafter, the 84th staging of the Academy Awards will take place at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday, February 26, when comedy great Billy Crystal will once again host.
Among those almost certainly in line for a Best Actress nomination are two-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep for her portrayal of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in new movie The Iron Lady and 31-year-old Michelle Williams for her performance as big screen sex goddess Marilyn Monroe in drama My Week with Marilyn.
Lawrence – who made her name while starring as Lauren Pearson in US sitcom The Bill Engvall Show – will soon be seen in the much-anticipated sci-fi/drama film The Hunger Games alongside Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth when it is released in Britain on March 23.
The up-and-coming movie star was last year seen in hit prequel X-Men: First Class as Raven/Mystique, while she also played Tiffany in comedy film The Silver Linings Playbook – which will be in cinemas this coming November – alongside Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper.
