Steven Spielberg won't retire before Eastwood
Steven Spielberg The multi-award winning moviemaker – who has helmed 50 movies during his long and distinguished career – has stressed that he will keep working in Hollywood for as long as 81-year-old Eastwood is making movies.
The 65-year-old spoke to entertainment news agency BANG Showbiz about his future, saying: “I have no plans to quit. Clint Eastwood is one of my best friends, and we have a joking relationship about retirement.
“Clint’s like 81 and I always go, ‘OK, Clint, are you ready to retire this year?’ And he says, ‘No, are you?’”
Meanwhile, Spielberg also discussed his latest movie, War Horse, which is based on English author Michael Morpurgo’s 1982 novel, saying he reckons it is not so much about the First World War as love mainly because the film’s battle scenes don’t take up much of the screen time.
He added: “What makes this unique is that it is a story of love and a story of war, but I don’t really see this as a war story. If you really look at the movie, there’s really only 15 minutes of combat in the film.
“I wanted families to see this movie – there’s almost no blood in the movie at all. I took a different approach to this movie [from Saving Private Ryan], so for me it’s a combination of both. Courage and combat.”
