Fans of the David Bowie film Labyrinth, the iconic 80’s movie by Jim Henson, will be pleased to know the film is to receive a comic book prequel.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Editor in Chief of comic publisher Archaia, Stephen Christy said, “We can say it is a prequel. It’s the story of how Jareth (Bowie’s character in the original film) is brought to the Labyrinth for the first time. It doesn’t deal with Sarah or Toby. It’s a very tragic story that is the opposite of Sarah’s, which has triumph at the end.”

Character design and concepts will fall in the hands of Brian Froud, who worked on the film version and Henson’s 1982 film, The Dark Crystal.

Christy added that they are in talks with David Bowie to possibly provide an introduction to new series, and the singer also has likeness approval for the project.
