Tom Hiddleston thrives in bad guy role
Tom Hiddleston Tom Hiddleston revealed he always liked the bad guys when he watched movies as a youngster.
The actor stars in new movie War Horse but reprises his role as Thor's enemy Loki, the Norse god of mischief, in The Avengers movie later this year.
Hiddleston told The Press Association: "I grew up watching the bad guys. The best characters in Tim Burton's Batman and Die Hard are Jack Nicholson's Joker and Alan Rickman's Hans Gruber, so this year's a fulfilment of a long-held dream where I get to be the ultimate baddie in a big blockbuster. That's cool! I'm aware of the privilege of being in that position."
The Avengers brings together the Marvel Cinematic Universe and features Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Rober Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as The Incredible Hulk, Scarlett Johansson as The Black Widow and Samuel L Jackson as the director of SHIELD Nick Fury.
Hiddleston was earmarked for the role as Loki after he starred alongside Kenneth Branagh, Thor's director, in a West End production of Chekhov's Ivanov. He is also set to star in Thor 2 as Loki in 2013.
New film War Horse is an adaptation of the children's novel about a horse sold to the cavalry during World War I. During filming of the movie, Hiddleston revealed a fondness and appreciation of horses.
He said: "All through the film, I noticed that whatever I was feeling, the horses would reflect back to me. They sense fear, arrogance, and they can sense a kind of inner peace."
War Horse is released in the UK on January 13.
