Natalie Portman to join Jupiter Ascending?
Natalie Portman The 30-year-old – who won the Oscar for best actress at last year’s awards for her role as troubled ballet dancer Nina Sayers/The Swan Queen in psychological thriller Black Swan – is enjoying a break from acting right now after giving birth last June to son Aleph with partner Benjamin Millipied.
However, the star of movies such as V for Vendetta and Mr Magorium’s Wonder Emporium did read the science fiction movie’s script – which was penned by Andy and Lana Wachowski – and is now eager to take on the part.
Newspaper The Los Angeles Times reported recently that the Warner Bros movie is expected to start shooting in autumn this year – for a 2014 release – after the studio completes work on yet another sci-fi film, Cloud Atlas, which stars Tom Hanks, Hugo Weaving and Jim Sturgess.
If Portman does sign up for the part, it will be the first serious science fiction movie she has appeared in for quite a while, even though she has previous credits from the likes of Mars Attacks! and Star Wars.
Portman was all set to appear in sci-fi/thriller Gravity – which was directed by Alfonso Cuarón and is set for release in the UK on October 19 this year – but withdrew from the project to make way for Sandra Bullock to star alongside George Clooney.
She is, however, expected to also star as Jane Foster in the upcoming sequel to last year’s hit fantasy-adventure movie Thor alongside Australian actor Chris Hemsworth as the main Marvel character.
