Tom Hardy to take on Al Capone role
Tom Hardy Tom Hardy is getting ready to play Depression-era mobster Al Capone in a new movie directed by David Yates.
Yates has directed four Harry Potter movies and wrote the script for Cicero which follows Capone's rise to power.
Tom Hardy told The Daily Mail: "I've been working with Warner Bros, watching their gangster films - the ones with James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart and Edward G Robinson.
"It's interesting to get them, and a bit of Capone into the bloodstream. You look at pugnacious James Cagney in The Public Enemy and see how this guy rises up to become a kingpin in Chicago.
"The idea isn't to remake those films but to get a flavour of them as we explore Capone's career as a racketeer."
Hardy also said that Cicero could lead to a series of new gangster films.
The actor recently finished filming The Dark Knight Rises where he plays villain Bane and will soon begin filming the new Mad Max movie alongside Charlize Theron in Namibia.
Cicero is expected to start filming later this year.
