Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows tops 2011 DVD Chart
Harry Potter The penultimate Harry Potter movie sold the most DVD copies last year.
According to the Official Charts Company, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One sold 2.3 million DVD copies while Part Two sold nearly two million.
The Inbetweeners Movie was the third highest DVD seller last year with 1.9 million sales followed by The King's Speech, Despicable Me and Paul. Pirates of the Caribbean - On Stranger Tides, Tangled, Peter Kay Live and Bridesmaids make up the top ten DVD's of 2011.
As expected, DVD sales increased over the Christmas period with recent releases such as The Inbetweeners Movie and Peter Kay's The Tour That Didn't Tour flying high in the DVD chart.
DVD sales increased 6% in December compared to the same period in 2010 with over 43 million units sold. There was a 31.1 % increase in Blu-ray sales of which 5% were 3D Blu-ray discs.
British Video Association chairman Charlie McAuley said: "In a challenging economic environment it’s really encouraging to see people continuing to spend their hard-earned cash on the best of our films, television, children’s, sport and music and other great video entertainment.
"It’s this sector of the audiovisual business that generates the lion’s share of value which is reinvested in future productions for audiences to enjoy."
