Saoirse Ronan to star in How I Live Now
Saoirse Ronan The 17-year-old Irish actress will play lead character Daisy in the movie – to be directed by Kevin Macdonald – adapted for the big screen from the Meg Rosoff novel that tells the story of a troubled New York teenager who arrives at a remote English farm to live with her aunt and cousins.
Daisy swiftly comes to terms with her life in the country, even finding romance, but this near future setting becomes fraught with danger as she and Piper, her cousin, find themselves isolated in woodlands following the outbreak of a third world war.
The two children become separated when encountering soldiers, while her aunt is trapped in Norway.
The award-winning bestseller – published back in 2006 – has been adapted for the movies by Tony Grisoni and Jeremy Brock, and should hit cinemas some time in 2013.
However, before New York-born Saoirse arrives on set for How I Live Now, she will work on sci-fi movie The Host.
While thrilled to be involved in the project, which is based on the book penned by Twilight writer Stephanie Meyer, Saoirse remains unsure as to how director and screenwriter Andrew Niccol will bring the story to the big screen.
Saoirse will play lead character Melanie Stryder in the film that recounts the tale of an alien race, named Souls, which take over the world and apparently all its inhabitants.
However, the star of hit movie The Lovely Bones has confessed that playing her character – who battles for control of her body with a Soul called Wanderer – will be challenging.
She said: “We’re doing The Host at the start of next year. We’re figuring out how to film it at the moment.
“Andrew Niccol, the director, knows what he’s doing. I think it seems incredibly challenging, but he knows exactly what to do, so I feel very safe.”
The Host is slated for release in the UK on March 29, 2013.
