Steven Spielberg won't 'prove a point'with Indiana Jones 5
Steven Spielberg The 64-year-old director, screenwriter and producer – who helmed the four previous Indiana Jones movies – realises that countless fans of the franchise were disappointed with 2008 release Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, although he is adamant that he would not film a fifth movie just to appease those left dissatisfied with the fourth outing for Harrison Ford’s character.
Spielberg spoke to MTV News about his determination, saying: “I would not make a fifth movie to prove any point. If we get a good story, I’ll make it. If George Lucas doesn’t think we should make any more, I’ll listen to him.
“I think audiences think we’re two for two. They love Raiders. They love Last Crusade. They don’t love as much Temple of Doom or Crystal Skull.”
Meanwhile, Ford – who portrayed the whip-carrying Dr Jones in all four earlier movies – believes there is still life in the franchise and has stated that he would enjoy one last go at creating a thrilling fifth film.
The 69-year-old said: “I wouldn’t mind another shot at Indiana Jones. I still think we have a chance of making a really good one.”
