Elizabeth's Cleopatra wig sells for £10,300 at auction
Elizabeth Taylor The iconic wig worn by Elizabeth Taylor in the film Cleopatra has been sold at auction for over ten thousand pounds.
The late actress’ hairpiece went under the hammer with the expected sale price or around seven thousand pound, but exceeded all valuations when it was sold in Dallas, Texas on Tuesday.
Cleopatra was filmed in 1963, and the wig, which was made from human hair, and is renowned as one of the most acclaimed films ever. Three different wigs were reported to have been made for use by the actress during filming, and it is said that the cost almost bankrupted 20th Century Fox.
Talking about the sale, Margaret Barrett of Heritage Auctions said, “This is the most iconic of all the wigs from the film. If you think of the film, then you think of Elizabeth Taylor in that wig.”
