You may have thought that Michael Bay had pulled out all his tricks over the course of three Transformer movies, and Shia LaBeouf had previously ruled himself out of any more robot battles, but it looks like Bay at least could be tempted back to the franchise again.

The director is apparently in talks with Paramount and toy company Hasbro to take the helm in a fourth instalment of the robot vs robot action saga.

The third episode, Dark Of The Moon, took a staggering amount of money at the box office despite some diabolical reviews – in the end though, it’s a film about robots that turn into cars fighting other robots that turn into vehicles and is ultimately based on a child’s toy. How sophisticated to people want it to be?

The main problem is that Bay did almost sew up every loose thread in the third film, and whether he could reboot the series is another questions.

Regardless it looks like Optimus Prime and co will be making another appearance some time in the future.
