Whoopi Goldberg: I don't miss acting
Whoopi Goldberg The American star is renowned for appearing in movies such as Ghost and Sister Act, but her acting career has slowed recently. She still appears in films occasionally, but is more focused on her presenting job on US talk show The View.
Whoopi knows many suspect she misses shooting big budget blockbusters, but she’s insistent that’s not the case. She broached the subject at the Artios Awards in New York on Monday, which are organised by the Casting Society of America.
“I used to be a really great actor… then I took a different kind of gig. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy I got the gig. It’s just a different kind of gig,” Whoopi told the audience.
The awards are famed as there are two different ceremonies held on each of America’s coasts.
They attract some of the industry’s brightest talents, with Justin Bartha, Brooke Shields, Daniel Radcliffe and Rachel Griffiths all on hand to celebrate in New York.
The Los Angeles event was held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel, with stars such as Christy Cashman and Hailee Steinfeld in attendance. Jason Alexander hosted proceedings, and ensured it was a fun affair by openly poking fun at his hair transplant.
The awards honour both movies and theatre, with Whoopi taking home The New York Apple prize.
