Anne Hathaway enjoys refreshing role
The Hollywood star plays Emma in One Day opposite Jim Sturgess. The movie follows the deep friendship between Emma and Dexter - played by Jim - who realise their love for one another following a series of events throughout their lives.
Anne says playing a respectable character is a welcome change for her.
"I'm clothed in this movie. I play a nice Yorkshire lass. Isn't that a good phrase? Nice Yorkshire lass? It's a far cry from my first-ever time on film, which was an anti-smoking PSA, where I coughed up. Lovely to come home and show that to your parents, right?” she quipped in an interview with the New York Post.
“My first real role was in The Princess Diaries. My mother still has a copy of that."
Anne hosted this year’s Academy Awards opposite James Franco. Their performance was met with mixed reviews from audiences and critics alike, but the 28-year-old star insists she doesn’t hold the experience in a bad light.
"Look, after all that critical acclaim or whatever negativity was written about it afterward, I only know for me the response was complimentary. Wherever I went - coffee shops, airplanes - everyone was excited about it. Strangers offered praise. They said good things to me and they said they enjoyed my performance,” she explained. “So I consider it a win-win."
Anne was speaking at the New York premiere of One Day. The gorgeous actress was dressed in an Alexander McQueen tight bodice dress teamed with skyscraper heels and impressive jewellery.
Anne joked that apart from her hair, nothing else belonged to her.
"The dress is borrowed. Not mine. [Diamond solitaire] Borrowed. Not mine,” she joked. "And this hair is not borrowed. It's mine."
