Review: Bad Teacher
Cameron Diaz I’ve got to admit I was quite looking forward to Bad Teacher. It seemingly had all of the ingredients a good comedy should have but something seems to have gone amiss. Not that I didn’t enjoy it, it had many laugh out loud moments but these were sprinkled over a general awkwardness.
So, the films centre’s around Elizabeth (Cameron Diaz) who is interested in nothing but baggin a rich husband for an easy life and she thinks this can be done by getting a boob job. Yes it really is that simple. So while Elizabeth teeters around in her Christian Louboutin heels trying to muster up enough money for the op, she is also ruining the education of the youngsters she is supposed to be teaching. Throw in an annoying nemesis in the shape of goody goody teacher Amy Squirrel (Lucy Punch), an actual love interest via the basketball coach Russell Gettis (Jason Segel) and the rich future husband she hopes to bag; Scott Delacorte (Justin Timberlake) and you have the film in a nutshell. Diaz fulfils her role with gusto as does the Punch, it’s also a treat to see Jason Segel outside of his role on How I Met Your Mother, the man has excellent comic timing. However it feels as though Timberlake was miscast. Not to take anything away from Timberlake as an actor (I know many people hate him but I couldn’t fault his performance in The Social Network) it just didn’t fit.
There are several one-liners to look out for however the scene that seems to be getting a lot of press inches is the dry humping denim sequence, now I don’t know if that’s because it was Diaz and Timberlake and that’s the closest thing perverts will get to a sex tape of the two ex lovers but I didn’t get the big deal with it.
All in all, the film is definitely worth a watch, maybe wait for the dvd though.
