The star's first impressions of the character she would be playing were not good, but on reading more she realised how good it could be.

Cameron Diaz has revealed that she likes to read a script from the start to finish before taking on a role, and with very good reason in the case of her latest movie, Bad Teacher.

The star said that when she began the script she hated the character of Elizabeth Halsey, the one being offered to her, but by the end of the read through she loved her.

“About thirty pages in I didn’t want to know her,” she said of the character. “Another ten pages in I began to get her and by the end I loved her. My rule is to read it all the way through. It’s kind of like a dress that looks terrible on a hanger, then you try it on an it looks good.”

Diaz said that the role means she could play a character she didn’t have to feel “morally responsible for”.

Bad Teacher is out in cinemas now.
