X-Men: First Class tops the US box office

James McAvoy X-Men: First Class, the fifth film in the comic book franchise, took the No. 1 spot at the weekend box office in North America after selling around $56 million worth of tickets.
The prequel stars James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender as Professor X and Magneto in roles that were previously played by Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen.
The Hangover Part II continued to do well in its second week, making $33.5 million to come in second.
Animated flick Kung Fu Panda 2 raked in $25 million to come in third place.
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Bridesmaids came in fourth and fifth place with $19 million and $12.5 million.
Rounding off the Top Ten were Thor, Fast Five, Midnight in Paris, Something Borrowed and Jumping the Broom.
