James McAvoy has revealed that he wants to 'push' his X-Men character as far as he can.

The 31-year-old actor will play a younger version of Professor X - who was originally portrayed by Sir Patrick Stewart - and said that he wants to make his interpretation of the role as different as possible.

Talking to Empire magazine, he explained, "That character's a bit of a monk. What's the f**king opposite of that? Let's not make him a monk. Let's make him really enjoy a drink and he'll read the mind of a girl, get her favourite drink, and then order it for her.

"He's got his shtick. He's so different from how he is in the other movies. I'm willing to push it as far as we can go.

"It started off with the fact that we were going to shave my hair and the studio said, 'Don't shave your hair,' so immediately I said, 'well, f**k it, I'm liberated then'."
