Interview Time : Kano
Kane Robinson aka Kano: garage's lyricist laureate, the MC's MC, the street poet who knows it, a pirate frequency all of his own amid the scramble of the national garage airspace. A key member in East London's reigning N.A.S.T.Y. Crew, he has talent, credibility and vision coming out of his pores, and let's not even mention his looks - handsome enough to melt knicker elastic at a thousand paces, he's currently out of love, and weighing out the options: 'Single. yeah,' Kano grins. 'I'm happy about that. There's girls, but I seen people go through a lot of stress with relationships. There's nothing wrong with having a girlfriend, but. there's time for that.'...
Quick Five Fire Questions At Kano
Many young people can relate to your new single ‘Typical Me’ - was it written from your own experiences?
Yeah all true -- it happened to me, my very own experiences.
Your currently on tour with the Streets, when did you meet Mike Skinner and are you part of a crew?
No were not a crew, he is an artist and I am another. We just work together, I met him on a video shoot for one of his remixes (Fit But You Know It).
Your parents are from Jamaica, do you think Garage/Grime music can cross over to Jamaica?
No I don’t think it can, the people over there are just stuck in their own ways, they like Hip Hop -- over there reggae is their thing.
You started out on pirate radio stations, like De Ja Vu; do you still have time to perform on any?
Every now and then -- it has all slowed down , I still go on 1Xtra and internet radio stations like Raw Mission.
I used to be on De Ja Vu but everyone got kicked off (No reason)... yeah also I started on Flava.
What are your future plans?
My album, which is coming out soon. I will also be release a new track... But I don't know which one yet!
I will also be finishing the tour with The Streets and then I will be supporting Nas on his UK tour.
Piece!!
