The legal papers relate to a dispute between George and a Cheshire based club promoter called Kasia Saleh. She was behind a US based venture called Club GAY USA, and booked George to play at the club. But he pulled out of the booking at the last minute, something which, Saleh claims, caused the whole fledgling Club GAY USA venture to collapse. She sued in the UK and was awarded £36,000 damages. George was ordered to pay up before 2 Nov but failed to do so. The Statutory Declaration served on George by the Levy's lawyer at the Essential club in Manchester is part of Saleh's attempts to bankrupt the DJ in order to secure her monies.

A spokesman for Levy's told reporters: "He was gobsmacked. As soon as we said, 'You have been served with a statutory declaration' he went, 'Oh!'. He could not understand it. He was gobsmacked".

George is yet to comment. The bankruptcy threat comes just days after the singer was formally charged over allegations of false imprisonment made by male escort Auden Carlsen who claims George and another man chained him up at the Culture Club man's Shoreditch home.
