Cicada Are One Beat Away

Cicada return with a huge and anthemic single lifted from their latest long player “Roulette”.

Matching their previous electro-dance-rock excursions and electrifying live performaces, “One Beat Away” erupts into magnificent power-pop bursting with disco psychedelica. And for you lucky people, they have also included a special bonus album track “EXECUTIVE” featuring the stunning vocals of Tom Smith from The Editors.

Refined from a myriad of acclaimed remixes, and having successfully transformed artists as diverse as Depeche Mode, New Order, The Editors and The Enemy for the dance floor, Cicada approach 2010 with a sublime amalgamation that straddles as many eras as it does musical genres. Injected with Cicada’s irresistible and infectious electronic pop sensibility, “One Beat Away” is built around punk-funk guitars that scream of Cicada’s own signature retro-dance craftsmanship.

As a clear declaration of intent and continuing to showcase their abilities, Cicada present to us one of the album’s centerpieces, with its contagious mesh of guitars and crowd engaging hooks that hint of 80’s new wave and create the undertones for the sexy and delicious vocals. Pop Music in the hands of Cicada inherits the emotional pull of dance music from the past, eschewing overwrought ‘indie’ vibes in favor of the throbbing drums and melodies that create their unique unmistakable sound, elevating even the most outwardly melancholic disco anthem. This year alone Cicada has played many impressive live performances, both in the UK and abroad.

They have shared stages with acts as diverse as The Beastie Boys, Digitalism, Snoop Dogg, Groove Armada and David Guetta. They’ve played at Glastonbury, V, The Big Chill and The iTunes Festival this year alone, making them a must-see live act. “One Beat Away” is a song so immediate that it has become a call and response ritual at Cicada gigs. It’s a dance floor detonator that ebulliently sums up Cicada’s intention to create music with one foot down in the mud at the front at a festival and the other foot on the dance floors of the most discerning clubs.
