David Guetta refuses to play alongside a band
David Guetta He said: "My record company has been suggesting I play with a band for years, but that's not me. I refuse. I'm a DJ. I've been fighting to say DJs can be real artists for 20 years.
"Now that I'm successful I'm not going to stop being a DJ so that I can turn into a pop star. I'm happy there is a DJ crossing over like I am and I hope it opens doors. But for me it's not about changing the way I perform or to change my life."
The Frenchman - who is performing at the Creamfields festival, which takes place in Warrington, northern England, from August 28 to 29 - believes a lot of his success is down to changing people's perceptions of music in America.
He added to the Daily Star newspaper: "In America they would not play dance music on the radio before. It was waiting to explode. When I used to play clubs in America I would invite artists to come and see me and they would say, 'Oh my God, I had no idea this was going on.'
"It was born in America but raised in Europe."
