Latinos in Hip Hop
Since the origin of hip hop, Latinos have greatly contributed to its development. From break dancing rappers Rocksteady Crew to Mellow Man Ace “Mentirosa” and Kid Frost “La Raza” to Big Pun R.I.P., founder of Terror Squad alongside Fat Joe, Cypress Hill to N.O.R.E. to Tego Calderon to Pitbull to Joell Ortiz. The Hispanic connection has linked hip hop with people living in Latin America and at the same time increased the popularity of the genre within the U.S. due to Latinos being the largest minority demographic.
About La Raza
London being one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world, with a growing and very active Latino community, has one of the largest Latin music scenes outside of the Americas and following the success of London’s reggaeton rave La Bomba, the promoters, Jose Luis & DJ Zorro of Fired Up Entertainment have joined forces with hip hop promoters Kung Fu (Fabric Live, Puerto Rico) to launch Latin hip hop event La Raza at the Carling Islington Academy. The night promises to fuse hip hop street culture with the friendly vibe of the Latino rave to create the sexiest block party outside of the Bronx. Joell Ortiz will be supported by London’s most rated Latin hip hop outfit Cultura Londres and backed up by hip hop DJ’s Sarah Love (Radio 1 Xtra/Kung Fu) and El Moreno (La Bomba/Bar Rumba).
