Brad Pitt reveals he needs cane after trying to protect daughter

Actor, Brad Pitt walked the red carpet at the Palm Springs International Film Festival awards gala on Saturday night, (07.01.12) with the help of a cane - after an incident involving three-year-old daughter, Vivienne.

Brad - who was in attendance with long-term partner, actress Angelina Jolie said he injured his ACL, a ligament in the knee.

The ‘Moneyball’ star explained: “I was carrying my daughter [Vivienne] down the hill [while on ski slopes] and I slipped,” noting, “It was either her or me” that was going to get hurt.

Luckily, Vivienne is “absolutely fine,” said Jolie, adding, “I like the cane.”

It will be some time until Brad stops using the cane - but it was definitely worth the effort to attend the event - after he was honoured with the Desert Palm Achievement Actor Award - for his work in last year's 'Moneyball' and 'Tree of Life'.
