Bloc Party Storm Electric Proms Despite Doctor's Note
Bloc Party took to the Roundhouse stage in London on Saturday night for their Electric Proms gig, even though a doctor had told frontman Kele Okereke he should cancel the show.
But the band won rave reviews despite Okereke suffering from acute pharyngitis. According to NME he told his audience at the show: "I should not be singing today, I have acute pharyngitis. I have a doctor's note... well, no thanks. I couldn't let you down".The BBC's Electric Proms, by the way, were a huge success, even though I missed them all again (though, I should add, in the Beeb's defence, not because of the lack of an invite, but because last week was the busiest for a while at CMU, and that's saying something). The whole shebang reached its climax last night with that Ray Davies taking to the stage, not least to perform Kinks song 'Sunny Afternoon' with that Johnny Borrell fella.
