Released: April 2007

Label: Atlantic
Written by: Zoë Powell
Rating: 7/10

An intriguing sampler this, of the Fields forthcoming album on Atlantic. Hailing from London, Birmingham and Reykjavik, this 5 piece make a beautiful sound between them. Lilting and at times hauntingly melodic vocals, often leading to a wonderful cacophony of sound. Tinges and elements of Spiritualized are here, with a generous measure of My Bloody Valentine and The Sundays thrown in. But it’s the opener which held my aural attention. It weaves its way through plucked guitars and dreamy vocals building up to a faster crescendo. A heady mix, in an almost medieval folk style, reminiscent also of late 60’s British psychedelia. The pretty voice of Thorunn Antonia, alongside the melodies and male leads give the songs an added depth. This sampler  whets the appetite for what may follow and I am sure that they are certain to do well with the album on its imminent release.
