Who are the Finest Minds?
Finest Minds None of them. Finest Minds are the upcoming three piece electro- indie Band from Surrey, who just released their debut EP “You are here”. We met the guys and rummaged in their (fine) minds to find out more about this Band who might not be known to wide audiences yet, but you should definitely keep an eye (and ear) on them.
It really does take a fine mind to describe this Band. First of all one has to mention the, in modern terms, quite remarkable fact of how and when the Band formed. In times of X- Factor and other let’s-make-a-band-out-of-random-people Platforms it is good to know that there are still bands out there that are not any less than a bunch of old school friends. In the case of Finest Minds this means that they formed in year 7 or like they say “we never really formed the band, we just fell into being one”. The idea of 11 year olds trying themselves as rock stars might be quite entertaining at first, but if you listen to their music you can hear that the guys are not just a random talent-cocktail, but friends who grew up together and so did their music with them.
Seven years later Ciaran Cummins, Elliot Taylor and Alex GW have just released their first EP (free for download) and are playing regular gigs all over London. “The hard part is to get people who don’t know us personally to come to our shows. We don’t have that snow ball effect yet. There’s a giant leap at the point we are at and having fans coming to our gigs, so we’ve got to build a bridge across that leap.” So what makes them special that people should come to see them live? “Well I think the special thing about us is that we don’t want to stick with just one style, we want to have a range of diverse styles. Our songs vary from relaxing electro sounds, to loud rock music. We just find it more interesting this way and it is really fun to experiment with the different styles, to see how far we can push it.”
It is really hard to describe their sound and it seems brave to mix electro, indie, garage rock and everything else they might feel like, but it is working for them. Maybe because each one of them has a different character and music taste, so when they mix together the authentic colours of each personality a harmonic musical painting is created.
They have been playing together for seven years, self -recorded and realised their EP, so we ask what is it about music that keeps them going? “ The universal and emotional power of music. It just connects everyone- one day we did a jamming session with some guys from Tanzania and it’s just amazing to see that even though we come from completely different continents and cultures we could connect through music and share this experience. Music is also quite abstract and mysterious, like it can be just so emotional but you don’t actually know why it is affecting you this much. If you think about it in the end it’s just Vibrations, but somehow it has the power to completely change your mood and the way you feel”
Finest Minds are an authentic and unique Trio who give all they have for their vision of music. “ We’d love to be able to do this full-time and earn our living with music, but at the moment we’re happy with every little step, for example when more people are coming to our gigs and we can see that they are enjoying themselves and our music”.
They might not be Spock or Aristotle, but Finest Minds are artistic and talented young people who deserve the attention of alternative music lovers. You can download the EP on http://finestminds.bandcamp.com/ or come along to one of their upcoming gigs:
