Bloc Party's Russell Lissak Will Join Ash On Their UK Tour
The musician told how he was once in a tribute band to the Irish pop rockers, and can’t wait to play with the band at a show in Japan and then across the UK.He explained: “I’ve always loved Ash - my first-ever stage performance was part of an Ash covers band, so when they asked me to join them on their forthcoming tour I jumped at the chance!“And it’s not like I need to spend months practicing or anything. I remember quite a lot of the old stuff.”Ash – comprised of singer and guitarist Tim Wheeler, drummer Rick McMurray and bassist Tim Hamilton- have been without a second guitarist since 2006, when guitarist Charlotte Hatherley left the group after nine years as rhythm guitarist.
Russell – who has been in Bloc Party since the band formed in 2003, although they are on hiatus for 2010 – said he thinks it will be “weird” being part of another group. He said: “I guess the only weird part would be spending so much time with people I don't really know. I'm not sure how that will work out, but we seem to have got on well so far." Meanwhile Russell’s bandmate, Kele Okereke, announced he will be playing a solo acoustic show as part of this year’s series of Ibiza Rocks concerts at the end of August.
