Liam Gallagher hopes to release a new album by next summer, he has revealed.

The rocker says he, Gem Archer and Andy Bell have been writing material in recent months, following the departure of band leader Noel Gallagher.

Working under the name of Oasis 2.0, their singer is in confident mood about 2010 although he has told fans not to expect "a new direction".

"I'd like to have a record out by July next year. We've already done about three songs and they're f**king sounding amazing", he told a UK tabloid.

"We're not making reggae music or rap music. It might have a bit more energy and be fresher. It's not going to be that different", said Liam.

Brother Noel is understood to be working on his debut solo album, although there are no confirmed details about the project.
