Morrissey has made a triumphant return to the stage - just three days after he collapsed at a gig.

The famous miserabilist made light of his health scare, and at one point even pretented to keel over again.

He started his set at London's Royal Albert Hall with the Smiths' hit This Charming Man - the last song he played before being carried off stage in Swindon on Saturday.

"Fasten your seatbelts it's going to be a bumpy night," he declared as he kicked off the song.

Later, he told the sell-out crowd: "The doctor said I shouldn't smile. I told him, 'I don't'."

At one point the singer lay on the floor feigning collapse before jumping to his feet and declaring: "Thank you Swindon."

The militant vegetarian - who once cancelled a gig after discovering the venue used to be an abattoir - also took a swipe at the "unfortunate preponderance of celebrity chefs".

He moaned: "Not one of them is vegetarian."

The 50-year-old has cancelled several dates this year because of illness.
