Guns N' Roses have confirmed they haven’t cancelled their upcoming UK tour, after a hoax announcement was posted on Twitter.

Fans were shocked when they read on frontman Axl Rose’s Twitter page that the band’s upcoming tour wasn’t going ahead.

There were no official announcements of a cancellation on the band’s website Gunsnroses.com, leading fans to question the reliability of the post, which has now been confirmed by an official spokesperson as the work of a hacker.

The announcement was posted last night and advised fans to seek refunds on any concert tickets they have purchased.

"All upcoming Guns N' Roses dates are officially cancelled. Please contact your place of purchase for any refunds," read the message on Axl’s Twitter page, sending worried fans into a frenzy.

The rock band are set to tour the UK as well as headlining shows at the Reading and Leeds festivals in England on August 27 and 29.

A spokesperson for the dual site festival told MTV.com the group’s management had confirmed that Axl Rose’s Twitter had been hacked and that the information was false.
