Solo Album Was A Liberating Experience: Kele Okereke
Kele Okereke The Bloc Party frontman – who has taken a hiatus from the group to pursue a solo career – has admitted he enjoyed taking the opportunity to be creative with his record ‘The Boxer’.
He told The Independent newspaper: “Making this record was definitely a triumph of the individual over the idea of a collective band effort. I didn’t always want to make a solo record, but once the opportunity arose I ran with it. I’m not going to lie – I found it very liberating to take an idea to its complete natural conclusion.”
The singer also admitted he also thrived upon the technological benefits associated with making a more “synthetic” record.
He said: “That was always the appeal in making a more synthetic record: that you could do anything you wanted to any sound. You could time-stretch things, you could change the MIDI sound. The point about making a record like this is that you can do anything you want.
“You’re only limited by your imagination and as a songwriter that’s a very exciting place to be, for me. That’s why I’ve always tried to embrace technology.”
