Coldplay have posted a message on their website showing their delight that BBC 6 Music has been saved from the axe.

The group, which is fronted by Chris Martin, thanked fans for their support in making the sure the radio station was not cancelled.

They said: "Earlier this year, the BBC announced its plans to close 6 Music, the wonderful radio station which plays a crucial and unique role in British music.

"The BBC trust rejected that station's planned closure. This was largely due to the enormous public opposition. We'd like to thank all of you who took the trouble to voice your opinions."
